The mother of a man charged with murdering his wife inside their Brooklyn home has also been arrested in the latest twist in the 59-year-old’s death.
Police said Yolanda Granda Trevino, 74, was arraigned Wednesday night on several charges, including assault and harassment. It’s not clear who she’s accused of assaulting, but the judge did issue an order of protection.
Her son, 47-year-old Mauricio Granda, also faced a judge Wednesday after being charged with murdering his wife, Maria Ines Granda. She was found dead on the couch of their 79th Street home on Monday morning.
Police went to the apartment for a wellness check after the victim’s son called police. When officers went inside, the woman was found face-down on the couch with an injury to the back of her head.
The medical examiner’s office said Thursday that Granda died of blunt force trauma to the head. Trevino allegedly hit her in the head with a tool, but it’s unclear what.
The victim’s son helped track the suspect down near 7th Avenue and 52nd Street.
“Something told me that I should go down that road,” Fortino Vazquez said in Spanish to Telemundo 47. “I was going slowly and looking anywhere, and suddenly, I just recognized my mom’s car by its plates. I approached little by little, and that was when I saw him inside, and I called the police.”
Attorney information for the husband and his mother was not immediately known.
