Hello? If Porter sits all year he gets less than $4mil. He turned down a deal with potentially $30mil guaranteed this year. So unless he is dealt, how is that not missing out on $26 million dollars?
To add to your Bell scenario... he also sat out for an entire season which nullified the tag $ and contract. Leveon got the original deal he wanted from the Jets, but again missed a full season paycheck on the franchise tag. As we saw, taking off a year in your prime does not add a year on the back end just because you saved ur body the wear and tear. Needless to say, the financial ramifications after the hold out are harder to quantify considering Bell never had another star season and was cut by the Jets as soon as his contract was no longer guaranteed.
