By that supposed standard, players would have all made the same amount. They didn’t. It usually equaled $50-$100 per game, with stars making a little more.
In fact, Red Grange signed as early as 1925 to play 19 games for $100,000 AND a share of gate sales. That sure doesn’t sound like someone who didn’t care about his pay relative to anyone else. Lol
In other words, better players wanted and got more, just like today.
