Bucks County’s First Congressional District — often considered a “purple district” as voters could lean to either side of the aisle in many elections — has gone blue for the first time in over a decade.
Democrat Bob Harvie defeated defeated Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, NBC News projects.
Harvie, a former high school social studies teacher and county commissioner, unseated Fitzpatrick, who has held the office since 2016 — and replaced his Republican brother Mike Fitzpatrick who sat atop the district since 2011, when it was still considered the state’s 8th Congressional district, prior to redistricting.
Since 2020, Harvie has served as a member of the Bucks County Commissioners and, on the campaign trail, he called for an end to corruption in Washington.
He also said, if elected, he would “hold greedy corporations accountable to the working class of this country” by pushing for a tax cut for the middle class and “ensuring large corporations and the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share.”
He also wants to overturn Citizens United and remove corporate PAC money from politics.
