A body has been found in the West River near where a missing teen was last seen, according to police.
Investigators said a person fishing found a body in the West River on the New Haven / West Haven line around 6:40 a.m. on Sunday.
Investigators said the body was found near where King Best, a 13-year-old New Haven resident, was last seen days earlier.
Police said they cannot confirm the identity of the body that was found until the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducts an autopsy.
Crews had been searching for Best since he went missing after entering the river early Thursday morning. New Haven Fire Chief Dan Coughlin previously said the teen was last seen going through the locks, which are mechanical water elevators used for boat navigation, in the river. He does not know why the teen jumped into the water.
About four and a half hours into the search, officials announced they were transitioning from a rescue operation to a recovery operation. That search continued through Thursday, resumed Friday and concluded Saturday afternoon.
