East Haven Police say a 5-year-old is dead after being hit by a car Thursday afternoon on Foxon Road.
They say first responders found the child at the intersection and attempted life-saving efforts on scene and in the hospital before being pronounced dead. The driver stayed on scene, according to police.
“We have been in contact with administrators at East Haven Public Schools, who have been made aware of this incident and are prepared to provide support to students and staff who may be impacted by this loss,” they said.
The South-Central Connecticut Traffic Unit took over and is investigating the scene. Foxon Road between Hunt Lane and North High Street will remain closed.
