A former funeral home owner from Coventry who is accused of stealing money from several clients and using it to gamble has agreed to a plea deal that calls for him to serve 7 1/2 years in prison.
Philip Pietras appeared in Rockville Superior Court on Friday to consider a proposed state plea deal. He faces more than 40 court cases containing dozens of charges, including larceny, fraud and forgery, following investigations involving police in several northern Connecticut communities.
He said he will accept the offer, which calls for a 15-year prison sentence, suspended after 7 1/2 years. He is expected to formally plead guilty when he returns to court on Oct. 23.
Pietras formerly operated Pietras Funeral Home in Coventry.
His sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 22.
