Police on Sunday released the name and image of the suspect wanted for opening fire inside a Walmart in Glenolden, Delaware County, on Friday night.
The suspect, identified as Armani Tyrell Waite, is wanted for attempted murder and related offenses after shooting an employee in the Delaware County Walmart at around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 31, police said.
Waite should be considered armed and dangerous. Police are urging people to call 911 if they see him and not approach.
Police told NBC10 two customers were arguing inside the store when one of them pulled out a gun and fired five to 10 shots. A Walmart employee was shot once in the calf, according to police.
“I could see something ricochet to the floor and then it like flashed. So, I’m assuming that was the bullet,” a woman, who did not reveal her full name, told NBC10. “Then they rushed everybody to the back of the store.”
The woman told NBC10 children were inside the Walmart at the time of the shooting.
“Children screaming,” she said. “One woman, she was hyperventilating. She was panicking. I went to her side. I was telling her to breathe. Take deep breaths so she could be able to think and concentrate.”
Another woman – who also did not reveal her full name – told NBC10 she was with her 3-year-old son inside the store when the shots were fired.
“I was waiting to pay. And the crazy part about it is, my friend was like, ‘Oh let’s go to that aisle.’ I was like, ‘No, I don’t want to go.’ I was just like, ‘I don’t know why they want to go to that aisle,'” she said. “And that’s where it happened. So I don’t know, the prayer I prayed before I went outside today was a good one.”
The employee was taken to the hospital. Police said her injury is not life-threatening and she’s expected to recover.
Witnesses said more employees rushed customers to safety and that they sheltered-in-place inside the store for about an hour.
“They say you don’t know how strong you are,” the second witness told NBC10. “But to be strong is your only option.”
Walmart issued a statement to NBC10 on Saturday, saying they are working with law enforcement on the incident.
“The safety of our associates and customers is a top priority. We’re grateful to first responders for their swift response and are working closely with law enforcement as they continue their investigation,” the company said.
