A chaotic scene unfolded Sunday night after a driver sent people scrambling on Venice Beach Pier, leading to a pursuit and standoff in Marina del Rey.
The initial incident happened at the Venice Pier just before 10 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Video showed the moment a woman sped down the pier as people ran for safety at around 10 p.m.
“It was extremely traumatizing for me. Everybody was trying to yell, if you hear in the video, was trying to get everybody off the pier,” said Daniel Lopez, who was fishing on the pier with his son when the incident happened. “My biggest fear was she was flying through that walkway,.”
Lopez said he and his son had to dodge the vehicle twice.
According to a spokesperson with the Los Angeles Police Department, by the time officers arrived, the woman had struck a cyclist.
Police say the woman then took off, prompting a chase. During the pursuit, the driver ran into a couple LAPD vehicles.
One officer was injured during the PIT maneuver and a second officer was injured when breaking the glass of the driver’s window.
The chase ended in the area of Via Marina and Pacific Avenue, where the driver remained in the vehicle and was taken into custody at around 10:30 p.m.
Police say the woman will likely face assault with a deadly weapon and DUI charges.
