Greenwich Police say two juveniles were arrested following an investigation involving a car that was stolen from a home north of Greenwich.
They say officers responded to the scene around midnight where a witness said they saw a white Jeep Grand Cherokee leaving the driveway before they called the police.
According to police, the Jeep was found traveling in the area of North Maple Avenue alongside a Honda HR-V. They say attempts were made to stop the cars and deployed a tire deflation device on the Honda.
“The occupant continued to drive the vehicle while it had flat tires and as it attempted to negotiate a curve in the roadway, it left the roadway and struck a utility pole,” police say. “The occupants of the Honda fled the area on foot.”
The Greenwich Police Department’s drone and K-9 Unit were also assisting on scene when the two suspects were found and taken into custody.
“During the investigation, officers determined that the Honda had also been stolen from Bethel, Connecticut,” police said. “Officers additionally recovered identification associated with a separate theft in Newtown, Connecticut.”
One of the juveniles was charged with engaging police in a pursuit, evading responsibility, theft of a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer and criminal trover. The other juvenile was charged with conspiracy to commit theft of a motor vehicle, conspiracy, interfering with an officer and criminal trover.
Police remind residents to lock their cars, remove keys and key fobs and avoid leaving valuables in plain sight.
