A man wanted in two recent shootings in Springfield, Massachusetts — one that killed a 19-year-old woman, another that left a person with severe head wounds — was arrested Friday in the city, federal officials said.
Alex Alejandro was taken into custody on charges including murder and attempted murder, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
He’d been wanted by Springfield police in the deadly Aug. 16 shooting of the young woman. Reinalyz Caraballo was killed in a drive-by shooting on Main Street near Noble Street, according to the Marshals and Springfield police.
A week earlier, Alejandro allegedly shot a person in the head on Carew Street — the Marshals said the person remained in the hospital as of Friday.
Alejandro was tracked down and arrested with the help of local and state police. Springfield police said he was taken into custody on Salem Street at about 11:15 a.m.
Alejandro was due to be arraigned in Springfield District Court; it wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney who could speak to the charges.
