Kim Kardashian’s recent health update has brought back painful memories for her family.
In the trailer for Season 8 of “The Kardashians,” released September 17, the reality star revealed she was diagnosed with esophagitis.
The trailer also shows her in a hospital gown preparing for a medical procedure. The news carries significant emotional weight for her family, as her father, Robert Kardashian, died of esophageal cancer in 2003
“I have something called esophagitis,” Kardashian states in the preview before being shown in a hospital bed.
When an off-camera voice asks if that was what her father died from, she replies, “Yeah.”
The conversation leaves her mother, Kris Jenner, visibly shaken, with Jenner remarking, “It makes me want to cry.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, esophagitis is the inflammation of the tissue lining the esophagus, the muscular tube carrying food and liquid from the throat to the stomach. While chronic inflammation from issues like GERD can increase certain long-term risk factors, esophagitis itself is a non-cancerous condition and distinct from esophageal cancer. Common symptoms include painful or difficult swallowing, chest pain and heartburn
This scare follows other medical concerns Kardashian has opened up about on the show, including a brain aneurysm scare discussed during Season 7.
In memory of Robert Kardashian, the family has long supported esophageal health awareness, including helping launch the UCLA Robert G. Kardashian Center for Esophageal Health in 2019.
Kardashian’s health journey will unfold when Season 8 of “The Kardashians” premieres October 8 on Hulu.
