Police in Haverhill, Massachusetts, have urged residents to use caution after a person was bitten by a coyote that was spotted near a young child in town on Friday.
The rogue coyote was first spotted allegedly eyeballing a 2-year-old in a neighborhood around the intersection of Broadway and Forest Street, when a neighbor intervened and was bitten on his arm, Haverhill police said. The man used a shovel to fend off the attack, causing the coyote to go down.
It appeared the animal was dead, but sometime later, the coyote got up and ran off. It was struck by a motor vehicle, but got up again, and was then struck by yet another vehicle. Against all odds, police say, the coyote got up again and took off. The animal was last seen heading into the wooded area behind Solid Slice.
Haverhill police used their drone unit to search the area but did not find anything.
Police believe the coyote is dead at this time, but they have asked residents to stay vigilant when outside their homes, as the current status of the animal has not been confirmed.
