A woman was killed and seven others were hurt after an elderly driver crashed into a restaurant in Ocean County, New Jersey, police said.
On Saturday, Sept. 19, at 11:12 a.m., a 93-year-old woman was attempting to park a 2014 Buick Encore in front of Meg’s Grill on 1401 Grand Central Avenue in Lavallette, New Jersey. Police said the woman pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the SUV to rapidly accelerate into the outdoor dining area and then into the building.
A 56-year-old woman from Toms River, New Jersey, was killed in the crash while seven customers were injured, police said. The 93-year-old driver – who is from Lavallette – also suffered minor injuries.
Police have not yet revealed the identity of the woman who died or the conditions of the seven people who were injured. They continue to investigate.
