An armed drunk man attacked a person inside a barn in Kent County, Delaware, threatened to kill him, and fired a shot in the air as he left the area, state police said.
John Baker, 55, of Bridgeville, Delaware, is charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, burglary, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, aggravated menacing, reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, terroristic threats, and offensive touching.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Sept. 17, 2026, around 11:40 p.m. along the 500 block of Black Swamp Road in Felton, Delaware, according to investigators.
Baker – who was intoxicated at the time – entered a barn on the property and began arguing with a man inside, state police said. Baker then began to attack the man, pulled out a gun, pointed it at him, and threatened to kill him, according to investigators.
Police said Baker then pointed a gun at a second person who entered the barn. Baker then fled the barn and fired a single shot in the air before leaving the property, according to state police. None of the victims were seriously injured during the incident, investigators said.
The next day, on Sept. 18, Baker called 911 and reported that he was at a gas station on the 11000 block of South Dupont Highway in Felton, according to state police. State troopers and detectives responded to the gas station and took Baker into custody without incident.
Police said Baker also gave the gun he used in the incident to a friend before his arrest. Detectives later recovered the weapon.
Baker was arraigned and committed to the Department of Correction on a $116,600 cash bond.
