The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center in Pasadena has announced its plans to temporarily relocate its programs and operations starting in April as preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics get underway.
The 36-year-old aquatics center — which will host diving competitions for the Summer Games in July of 2028 — said upgrades are needed before it can serve as a global stage.
“During this time, there will be welcomed improvements made to the facility that we anticipate including the diving tower, pools, and related mechanical systems,” the facility said in a message to the community. “These would be a great benefit to the RBAC in service of our community for generations to come.”
Community members can expect to return to the facility in the fall of 2028, after the Olympics conclude, according to the RBAC.
More details about where the programs will be relocated and construction plans were expected to be released in the coming months. An exact timeline was not provided.
In 2028, LA will become the third city to have hosted three Olympic Games, following the Games in 1932 and 1984. It will be the city’s first time hosting the Paralympic Games.
LA28 will feature 36 sports across more than 40 venues, including iconic landmarks like the LA Memorial Coliseum in Exposition Park and Pasadena’s Rose Bowl, as well as modern venues, such as BMO Stadium, SoFi Stadium and Intuit Dome. The city is not expecting to build any new permanent venues.
