As construction for the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing is nearing the end, state officials are temporarily closing down an on-ramp to the 101 Freeway in the Calabasas and Agoura neighborhood during the day.
The city of Calabasas has warned drivers that the northbound 101 on-ramp on Liberty Canyon will be off limits between Aug. 3 and Aug. 7 from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The closure is expected to support the construction project, which is set to complete in December 2026.
Caltrans will offer a detour. Drivers can continue south on Liberty Canyon Road, head west on Agoura Road, then travel north on Chesebro Road/Palo Comado Canyon Road to access the northbound U.S. 101 on-ramp, according to the state transportation agency.
While Agoura Road will reopen open, officials warned there could be intermittent closures and minor delays.
The project began on Earth Day 2022 to provide a vegetated bridge across the 101 Freeway, connecting the Santa Monica Mountains and the Sierra Madre Range. The main purpose is to protect wildlife animals, including mountain lions, particularly from deadly car crashes.
The bridge over the 101 Freeway is expected to be approximately 210 feet long and 174 feet wide.
