A Morgan Hill winery is struggling as trade pressures, weather concerns and lower demand plague the state’s vineyard business.
Guglielmo Winery has been serving the Morgan Hill community since 1925, after George Guglielmo’s grandfather bought the land that same year.
However, the winery has been struggling due to several concerns, including lower demand as young people don’t drink as much as the previous generations did.
The glassy winged sharpshooter, an invasive insect that can kill crops, is another concern at the business.
Santa Clara County’s Division of Agriculture says it’s done going door to door, searching for plants that may be harboring the pest, but are still looking for grapevine plants sold earlier this year at Costco.
Other issues affecting the business also include trade pressures and weather concerns.
