The owners and the manager of a Cupertino spa were accused of running a brothel, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office said on Thursday.
The DA’s Office said 46-year-old Ling Wang and 48-year-old Xian Wang of San Jose have owned and operated the Hummingbird Day Spa since 2022, which offered sexual services to approximately 30 men daily. The brothel, according to authorities, brought in about $700,000 a year.
The DA’s Office said it also charged the spa’s manager, 42-year-old Rui Wang of Sunnyvale.
Officials said the investigation began in March, after reports of illegal sexual activity from the community. The DA’s Office said evidence showed that the business, marketed to male customers, had a high volume of men entering the facility over a short period of time every day.
Further investigation revealed the Wangs were underreporting payroll by more than $100,000 per year, and that profits were funneled through mortgage payments to properties in San Jose and Chino Hills, along investments, according to authorities.
The defendants were taken into custody on Sept. 10, according to the DA’s Office, and two women who were on the scene received support services from Community Solutions. Authorities added the defendants were charged with numerous felonies, including pimping and pandering, money laundering and tax and payroll fraud.
